Comment from the lyricist, Matsui Youhei:
One of the Ultimate 9 Songs presented by Ensemble Stars!!. A love song sung by five people: Hokuto, Midori, Rei, Kaoru, and Souma; “Venus in my eyes ~Tonight, I won’t let go~” is now available on streaming services! The lyrics are by Matsui, and the composition and arrangement are by Fujisue Miki-san!
While writing the lyrics, I was especially particular about the straightforward depiction of eyes that seem to gaze straight at you, the lyrics distribution, and the dialogue parts that I don’t usually get to write in unit songs, and I thought over passion, possessiveness, allure, protection, heaviness… Just all sorts of things while writing!
(1.) In their dialogue parts (the ones between quotation marks), Rei, Hokuto, and Souma use omae for “you”. It’s not unusual for Hokuto to use omae, but it is for Souma, who typically speaks in formal Japanese, as well as Rei, who speaks like an “old man”. Ore-rei (Pre-3rd year Rei) used to use omae, though.
(2.) On the other hand, Midori and Kaoru have no omae in their dialogue; the “you” is implied without being stated.
- ↑ Here, the lyrics use omae for “you”. Omae gives a masculine and rough feel, fitting of the mature and passionate love the singers have. See the translation notes for more information.
- ↑ Rouge refers to the cosmetic red blusher or lipstick.
- ↑ This is likely referring to the planet Venus. Venus is the brightest planet in the Solar System, and can usually be seen by the naked eye within the few hours after sunset or before sunrise.
