Nekketsu ☆ Ryusei Ninpouchou (lit. Zealous ☆ Meteor Ninja Art Scroll) is a classic Ryuseitai-esque song, but sung with a multitude of ninja elements. This includes terms you’d typically see in Japanese period dramas, and anything else that gives the imagery of ninjas and the world they live in. The ninja art scroll from the song title would look something like this scroll in Chuunibyou Shinobu’s card.
The MV is digital technology mixed with the world of ninjas. It’s recommended to read the story to learn more about this combination!
Fun Fact! The full version of the song was released on February 2, 2022. Two in Japanese is ni, and can work as a wordplay for nin. In other words, the release date (2/2/2022) was on a nin-nin day!
- ↑ The original is chanbara, which refers to samurai movies and their fight scenes. This song has various references to terms related to period dramas and the like, please see the translation notes for more information!
- ↑ The “swoosh-swoosh” is shushushu in Japanese, the SFX for throwing shuriken.
- ↑ “Passed down for generations” is lit. inherited within a household. It likely refers to how ninjas operated in the Sengoku era, such as Hattori Hanzō, who once served the Tokugawa clan in his lifetime. Shinobu also often references this figure as his inspiration for ninja training. Also, it gives the imagery of Ryuseitai working together as a household/clan.
- ↑ Here, they sing in a ninja-like fashion, using (ja) gozara nu. (de) gozaru is a common sentence ender spoken by ninja characters in media, and Shinobu speaks in it as well.
- ↑ This yo is the typical Japanese yell you’d hear in kabuki theater.
- ↑ Nin-nin is a phrase Shinobu often says while doing his typical ninja moves.
- ↑ The ri is an old Japanese measurement unit of distance.
- ↑ “Seven transformations” refers to shichihenge (七変化). Seen in kabuki theater, it’s when an entertainer dances while quickly changing their clothes seven times. The “five”, of course, refers to the five members of Ryuseitai.
- ↑ The original is gittan battan midare uchi, lit. seesaw motion, throwing at random. The gittan battan gives the imagery of the shooting stars moving up and down, and the midare uchi gives the imagery of shurikens being thrown all over the place. Befitting of the ninja technique used here, “Cloning Meteor”.
- ↑ In the MV, a Japanese word lights up behind them as they sing these three lines. The Japanese word seen in the MV is written in brackets.
