It’s raining outside, and we could not secure any of the practice rooms, and thus, with no other option… We were made to watch a massive amount of tokusatsu shows without a break.5
However, I feel as though Tetora-kun was rather enjoying himself throughout the marathon.
He is quite the straightforward and genuine person, after all. He was so absorbed into the shows, even being moved to tears, so what gives~?

And then, as I was trying to fix up the electric circuits and the AV equipment…
I was also re-enacting all the dialogue and scenes from one of the tokusatsu shows, starting from the first episode!
But in the midst of it, Nagumo yelled out and ran away! What a shame! And I was just getting to the good part…
But not to worry, for he will surely come back! I believe in him!
I’ll keep re-enacting more scenes and dialogue from tokusatsu shows until he comes back! Which series should I do next~? Hmhmhmm~♪
You know what you have to do, right, Takamine? For the wire work action scenes, we’ll re-enact it while you carry me, okay?8

That’s right, I admitted defeat and ran away! Me — the guy who’s aimin’ to be a man among men! Screw it all, you can laugh at me all you want!

(Uhe~? I just realized I ran out in my idol uniform… I completely forgot it’s the rainy season~! This is some crazy downpour, I’m soaked to my bones!)

Ahh, right. Taichou’s so fussy over the weirdest things. I can barely keep up with it, honestly — All that, like, energy he has that’s almost like he’s come straight outta a tokusatsu.
……I actually wanted to join Akatsuki, the unit Taisho’s in. But the screening for that unit is super strict.
I couldn’t join ‘cuz I failed at the documents stage. So without any other choice, I ended up joining Ryuseitai.15
When I heard that it’s a group made up of “allies of justice,” I thought it’d be like, I dunno, manly or somethin’… I thought this unit’d be all about bein’ brave; saving the weak, and crushing the strong.
So I thought that if I go with this unit, then maybe I could get closer to my ideal of a man among men…
That’s what I had hoped at least, but in reality it’s practically only ever playing superheroes.16
I feel real disappointed, like I got my hopes up over nothin’. You rarely ever show up to our activities, so you might not be aware of this, but pretty much all we do is watch tokusatsu shows, y’know? The same thing happened today.
The heroes inside the screen are so cool and manly, fighting evil wherever they go… Yet all I can ever do is gaze at that from the outside… I couldn’t stand it anymore.
So I ran away, as shameful as that is.
Bein’ out here is prolly just gonna make me catch a cold from gettin’ drenched in the rain…
But I just couldn’t sit by anymore! I can’t handle just wastin’ my time doin’ nothing!
What am I gonna do now…?
Should I try to join a different unit this late in…?
There has to be other worthwhile units out there, that could help me get closer to my ideal “man among men” vision.
There’s just gotta be a place made for me — way more than this unit, Ryuseitai, that only ever plays pretend.

I’m a li’l confused by how you view me and Taichou, callin’ us similar…
But I know that Taichou never means any harm. And I know he’s workin’ as hard as he can to become an ‘ally of justice’.
I’ll head back and apologize to Taichou for runnin’ away. Then I’ll try to go along with him for a li’l longer.
I won’t get anywhere even if I try thinkin’ it through, so~ Imma try tackling it head-on.
And maybe… that’s the way my rainy heart will finally see sunshine and bring in good weather?

But the one thing that we can’t do is change the weather. If it’s going to rain, then it’s going to rain. That’s what I thought, but… I just couldn’t bring myself to give up the job.

Sorry. I have a bad habit of cutting my explanations short.
This was my plan: Set up a temporary stage in the park, as well as tents for the guests to sit under…
And then wear a waterproof uniform to perform a live show that can be enjoyed even in the rain.
It’d be a shame to cancel the live show just because it’s raining. This is a precious job opportunity, and a crisis is merely an opportunity to strike.27 I wanted to make use of this chance instead of letting it go to waste.
The park is meant to be a playground for the kids in the neighborhood, so they would’ve surely enjoyed the performance.
It’d also act as a way to relax during the gloomy rainy season.
Even if the skies were riddled with rainy clouds, everyone’s hearts would’ve surely cleared up.
It would’ve been a job perfectly suitable for Ryuseitai, and rewarding to do at that… So I wanted to follow through with it at all costs, but…
It’s raining, so I assume there won’t be that many guests. Still, even if there’s only one person watching and enjoying themselves, it would be gratifying enough for me — because I’d get to see them smile.
However, I collapsed at the preparation stage… It’s vexing. I pushed myself a little too much… I overestimated how much I could handle.
Mm? Why didn’t I rely on the other Ryuseitai members?
Well… This job is an outdoor performance on a rainy day. It would be awfully painful to try and perform like that.
We’d get drenched, and our voices would hardly be heard through the rain… Not to mention how difficult it’d be to move.
It would use up a lot more energy than usual, and there’s a chance we could injure ourselves if we slip and fall. And to top it all off, we’d barely get any profit out of going through all of that.
There wouldn’t be as many guests on a rainy day, after all… This is a job I accepted purely under my own selfish reasons; there’s actually very little benefit to pulling it off.
I can’t drag my comrades into such a harsh job.
I was planning to do it on my own for that very reason. Preparations, staging, everything all by myself. Even though that was obviously impossible…
And now, as you can see… I couldn’t keep up with it all; I reached my breaking point, and collapsed from overwork…

Instead of being unnecessarily worried about them, I should’ve trusted them… I should’ve relied on them for support, and teamed up to face this hardship together.
I should’ve gone all out and dragged them into my selfish wishes, so that even if they complain, they’d all gladly say it was worth it by the end…
That’s the sort of happy ending I should have aimed for.
I made the wrong choice. I failed as their commander — No, as a hero.

Takamine has the skills but he’s extremely timid, Sengoku hasn’t been able to fully demonstrate his true value due to his fear of strangers… Nagumo is always pouring every bit of his effort, but he tends to be a little off the mark, and Kanata…
That one, I don’t really understand much.
But… Ryuseitai has so many capabilities, and concealed within them is shining potential… They just haven’t gotten the chance to make the best use of it.
That’s why I didn’t want to have them experience any sort of failure or hardship.
I only wanted them to move forward with their chests puffed with pride, seeing nothing but a sparkling road ahead.
I wouldn’t mind if I turned into a stepping stone for them. I invited them to Ryuseitai fully prepared to do that at any point.
But all of that was just me being self-righteous.
It seems I ended up being far too overprotective, despite calling myself their “Taichou”…
I underestimated them, as if they’re “people to protect” rather than “fellow comrades”…
I’m such an idiot. But even if I’ve realized that now, it’s far too late to make amends.

Story Notes
Hero Show Unit Skill: With the allies of justice who defeat evil, even the rainy skies will be illuminated brightly by the five-colored lights.
This is the first Ryuseitai story in the game, introducing the unit and its members to the readers.
The unit Ryuseitai is based on the “Super Sentai Series” tokusatsu featuring live-action superhero squads. Ryuseitai’s unit title during their Yumenosaki days is “The Sentai Hero unit that tolerates no evill!”. The English equivalent of their name would have been “Meteor Rangers”, hence their song, The Unrivaled☆Meteorangers!. Their traditional song, Yumenosaki Ryuseitai Song, is also based on themes from Super Sentai.
Due to the tokusatsu theming, Ryuseitai is filled with various tokusatsu references. The scout outfit of Hero Show is heavily inspired by tokusatsu heroes, and Chiaki’s bloomed card is referencing the classic Rider Kick. Ryuseitai also has their own mecha robot called “Meteorking”, seen in the unit skill image, as well as this illustration. - ↑ “dono” is an honoric title to refer to someone, similar to “Mr.”. dono can also be translated as “lord”.
- ↑ Shinobu speaks like a typical ninja character from fictional stories (using “de gozaru” sentence ender, “sessha” first-person pronoun, and ninja-like terms), but he also mixes modern lingo in his speech, typically Japanese teen slang.
- ↑ Dogeza (Prostrating oneself) is a Japanese form of etiquette, where the person kneels on the ground and bows to prostrate oneself while touching one’s head to the floor. It’s used to express one’s deepest apologies to someone or when wanting a favor from someone. Read more here.
- ↑ The title taichou refers to leader (sometimes translated as Captain). It literally means “Squad Commander”.
- ↑ Tokusatsu (meaning “special effects”) is a genre of live-action film or TV drama that makes heavy use of special effects. Some of the most well-known ones are Kamen Rider, Super Sentai series, and Godzilla. Read more here.
- ↑ “Ally of justice” is another word for hero, specifically one who punishes anyone that harms the peace of the world and its people, and who strives to maintain peace in the world.
- ↑ The title taichou refers to Chiaki’s leader position in Ryuseitai, whereas buchou refers to his club captain position in the Basketball Club. Midori is also in the Basketball Club with Chiaki, hence initially calling him by that title.
- ↑ Also known as “wire fu”, it’s when stuntmen or actors utilize wires on their bodies to move around and perform action scenes.
- ↑ Here, Kanata says taiikukai-kei for “sportsy”. “Taiikukai-kei” is a word used to describe those who are part of a sports club, and they typically have the characteristic of always showing respect to their superiors.
- ↑ Taisho (Taishou, 大将) is how Tetora calls Kuro. It means “chief”, “boss”.
- ↑ Tetora says the word budou for Karate, and Kanata misunderstands it as budou for grapes. Literally translated, the dialogue would’ve been “grapes? sea grapes…♪ squish-squash, puka puka~♪”. I tried to give the English version a similar feel. Midori has a similar misunderstanding with Tetora in Orihime and Hikoboshi, Threat of Rain 1.
- ↑ Puka puka means “floating” (Sometimes translated as “bubble, bubble”). Usually when Kanata says this, it’s to do with his favorite hobby, water-bathing, where he “floats” in a body of water.
- ↑ Kanata, Rei, and Wataru are the Three Eccentrics. In their 2nd year, they were called the Five Eccentrics along with Shu and Natsume. As a fun note, Rei briefly discusses their disposition in Aquarium, Going to the Aquarium Together 5.
