Unit Name: Getenshuu

Translation Note: The unit name, Getenshuu, is written as 下天衆. It’s a unique word that combines many meanings at once:

  • geten, meaning “beneath the heavens”
  • tenshuu, meaning “deity/celestial being”
  • shuu, meaning “mass/group of people”

Together, one possible way to interpret the name is “(group of) celestial beings that are at the lowest layer of the heavens (or beneath the heavens)”.

Chapter 1

Season: ES 2nd Year

Ohh, looks like you’re in a real good mood, now aren’tcha. I bet what’s revvin’ you up is this song bein’ right up your alley, huh?

Ossu, it’s awesome! It feels like men trading blows with their fists, mano-a-mano!

I getcha, this song really puts the “man” in “manliness”.1

The melody’s also been loopin’ in my mind for a damn while now. I just wanna get up on stage and dance already.

Then let’s run through it one more time quickly before the real thing! We’ll start from where Oogami-senpai and I dance together!

Chapter 2

Orah~!!2

Like this, Ibara-sensei?

Yes, exactly like that. You’ve improved tremendously, haven’t you?

This song may differ from your typical image, Raika-kun, but it is also an opportunity to show that very same gap.

Now then, let us do that once more. We’ll practice as many times as it takes until making a challenging expression becomes second nature to you.

Aye. I’ll make sure to accomplish what Ibara-sensei taught me when it comes time for the actual performance!

Chapter 3

Hey, Taki. Someone’s gonna get hurt with you wanderin’ around with that metal pipe in your hand. Go put it back ‘til our performance starts.

Whoops, sorry about that~? It just feels so right in my hand that I ended up carrying it around~.

Oh yeah, your movement was pretty damn good when we were dancing, too. Like, you gave off an aggressive delinquent vibe, you could say?3

Makes me wonder if you’ve gone wild like this before or somethin’.

Nyahaha, nah, you got it wrong. I used to carry something else on me back then~♪

Huh!? The hell do you mean by tha— Hey, hold it! Don’t just drop somethin’ deep and scamper off like that~!

Chapter 4

Hmhmhmm~ (Humming) The bread we got was sooo tasty~♪

Mm? What’s wrong, Raika-chan? You’re staring at my face.

Wow… The Mitsuru-oniisan that dances to this song is way different from the usual Mitsuru-oniisan!

Heh-heh~♪ I’m super good at singing like I’m a whole other person! The theme of this song is about a group of delinquents, so I used TV dramas that had that kinda thing as a reference!

You’re so cool, Mitsuru-oniisan! I wanna sing like that, too…♪

Ehehe. Then y’know what, lemme teach you how I get in the headspace for a role, Raika-chan!

Chapter 5

Tetsu, that kick you did earlier looked pretty damn good.

I do roundhouse kicks like that in Ryuseitai pretty often.4 My typical activities came in handy this time.

Yeah, the choreography’s loaded with powerful moves. I got reminded of the time you and I would do kumite together.5

Really!? I thought so too! You and I really are always on the same wavelength, huh, Taishou~♪

Haha. Haha. Well then, after the show, how about you and I get our bodies movin’, then?

Chapter 6

It’s almost time for our performance, Tenma-shi. Let us proceed onto the stage for standby.

Are you listening? …Ah, those eyes of yours look quite eager.

Mhm. I’m in the zone, so please don’t strike up a conversation with me for the time being. I’m getting into the headspace of being part of a delinquent group right now.

Hm, I see. That was quite rude of me, then! ☆ I look forward to your performance, Tenma-shi!

I, too, refuse to stand in the way of everyone, so I shall take on this challenge with all my might!

Chapter 7

Glad this all ended without any mishaps. You two had good looks on your faces, Taki, Raika.

Nyahaha, feels like it ended before we knew it~. I wanted to go wild on stage for a little longer~.

Ibuki-oniisan, it looks like we’re gonna get the chance to go up on stage again, y’know~♪

—Hey, you’re right. I can hear the audience cheerin’ for an encore.

How ‘bout it, Taki? You ready to get back up there?

‘Course, that’s A-OK for me~, I’m always ready to go. Let’s enjoy the encore together~.

Translation Notes

  1. Originally, Koga says that it “feels like a song that’d write otoko with 漢”. otoko (meaning “man”) is typically written with the kanji 男, but can also be written with the kanji 漢. The difference is that while 男 refers to a man in general, the kanji 漢 typically refers to a strong, masculine man.
  2. He has a cute “Toryah~!” voice clip here.
  3. Koga says yankee for “delinquent”. In Japanese, this word almost always refers to delinquents (particularly adolescent delinquent), but it’s originally an American slang.
  4. One example is in Tetora’s leader/center song, WILDLAND SURVIVOR.
  5. Kuro was the captain Karate Club when he was a 3rd year student, with Tetora as a member. Kumite is one of the ways to train in karate, involving sparring with someone else. Read more here.
